PETER HOLLORAN
Co-founder & President
Peter developed Cognitive's Market Voicing brand development process and provides hands-on strategic work for our institutional identity and brand development clients. A graduate of Gettysburg College (B.A. English) and Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications (M.S. Advertising), Peter's career has included account management work in the Advertising & Sales Promotion Operation of General Electric Company; design and management of an in-house marketing operation at the National Flood Insurance Program; and account supervision at three advertising agencies, including the Rochester, NY, offices of BBDO (Omnicom Group) and Young & Rubicam. He's also an alumnus of The Harley School and the Preparatory Department at Eastman School of Music. Peter co-founded Cognitive Marketing in 1993. His community work has included service on the boards of the Advertising Council of Rochester (past chair), the Landmark Society of Western New York, the David Hochstein Memorial Music School (past chair and current Trustee), and chairmanship of the Community Advisory Board of WXXI, Rochester's public broadcasting affiliate. Peter has presented at numerous CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) and CIC (Council of Independent Colleges) conferences and workshops.

JOSANNE DENATALE
Co-founder & Vice President
Josanne is our chief "implementation officer," overseeing the development and production of the many elements of the integrated marketing plans we produce for our clients. As our Executive Creative Director, she leads teams of writers, designers, media planners, and Web development specialists in the design and execution of specific communications programs. Josanne is a graduate of the State University of New York College at Buffalo (B.S. Design) and has served as adjunct faculty at Rochester Institute of Technology. Prior to co-founding Cognitive Marketing in 1993, Josanne was Senior Art Director at a Rochester-based design firm, where she designed materials and programs for the Rockefeller Foundation, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Xerox Corporation, and the regional affiliates of Planned Parenthood and the American Automobile Association. Josanne currently serves on the Advisory Board of Horizons at The Harley School, a summer learning and enrichment program for city school children, and is a volunteer with the Greater Rochester Summer Learning Association. Her community work has included service on the Executive Board and the Cultural Diversity Committee of the Arts & Cultural Council of the Greater Rochester Region and on the board of Writers & Books Literary Center. She is a lifelong devotee of the typographic arts and a longstanding member of the New York City-based international Type Directors Club. Josanne presents frequently at CASE conferences and workshops.

JULIE CAPLAN
Manager of Operations & Research Specialist
Julie brings a background in market research to her work as Manager of Operations. A graduate of Ithaca College (B.A. English), Julie began her career in Washington, D.C., at OCM, a direct mail marketing firm that had a substantial college and university client portfolio. Upon returning to her native western New York in 2003, Julie joined Harris Interactive, where she provided project support to that company's strategic priority to convert the entirety of the business from traditional direct mail and telephone survey to online methodologies. At Cognitive Marketing, Julie coordinates our survey research service offering, manages our client services, and oversees communications within our team.


KRISTEN JONES
Project Manager & Advertising Media Specialist
Kristen is an experienced Project Manager with proficiency in traditional marketing and media, as well as interactive, social media, and brand-experiential events management. She is a graduate of Cornell University with a B.S. in Communications Management. Kristen’s career to date has included account management positions of increasing responsibility at firms in both New York City and Rochester. Prior to joining Cognitive, Kristen was an Account Manager at our partner media firm, Tipping Point. Her account experience includes service to the University of Rochester Medical Center and Monroe Community College, in addition to a wide array of clients in the nonprofit, high-technology, medical, and telecom sectors.

BRANDON KELLOWAY
Graphic Designer & Communications Specialist
Brandon joined Cognitive Marketing the old fashioned way—by interning at our company during his senior year in college. He did such outstanding work so cheerfully that we were compelled to offer him a full-time job as a graduation present. A 2011 Graphic Design honors graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology (with a minor in Advertising and Public Relations), Brandon brings wonderful talent, high energy, and generational perspective to the role of Graphic Designer. His work already reflects years of vigorous exploration of the intersection of technology, communication, and the graphic arts. Brandon is providing design support to many of our institutional identity, admissions marketing, fundraising communications, and Web redesign client projects. And, of course, Brandon is willingly taking on another responsibility: keeping his elders in touch and up-to-date with what it takes to reach, inform, and compel his contemporaries!

LISA STRASENBURGH
Researcher & Librarian
A graduate of St. Lawrence University with a double B.A. in English Writing and Sociology, Lisa joined Cognitive Marketing in 2010 and serves both the firm and its clients by collecting and disseminating market intelligence and background research to support the work we do. Her prior professional experience has included public relations and marketing in banking and finance, community relations for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, and special event and development work for a number of business, cultural, and nonprofit organizations. Lisa served on the Board of Directors of Pittsford Crew, is a member of the Gallery Council of the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester, and provides marketing communications services to several other community organizations.

LISA LENNOX
Office Manager
Lisa is a veteran of the marketing communications business. She began her career at Hutchins/Young & Rubicam as an Administrative Assistant, later moving into the ranks of account service at another leading Rochester advertising firm. Lisa joined Cognitive Marketing as Office Manager in 2000; she is responsible for seeing to the smooth and efficient operation of our company.

MEGAN BARILLO
Video Production Specialist
Megan brings creativity, organizational skill, and fearlessness about the Internet Age to her work as Video Production Specialist. She has a strong understanding of electronic media and its rapidly evolving role in the marketing mix of colleges, universities, and schools. Megan earned her B.F.A. from Rochester Institute of Technology, where she studied acting, script writing, and film production. At Cognitive, Megan leads our online video development team, as well as provides social media and Web development counsel to clients.

ABBY REINHARD
Senior Communications & Development Consultant
Abby joined Cognitive Marketing in 2010, bringing with her a wealth of client-side experience in admissions and development communications, as well as frontline fundraising. She spent the previous four years at Harvard University, where she worked in Alumni Affairs and Development while earning her Master's degree in higher education and leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In her first two years at Harvard, she served as Communications Manager for University Planned Giving and the Graduate School Fund, among other Harvard fundraising operations. She later ran two multimillion-dollar reunion gift campaigns as an Associate Director of the Harvard College Fund. Previously, Abby served as Director of Communications for Beaver Country Day School, an independent school in Chestnut Hill, MA, and as Assistant Director of Communications for Olin College, a private engineering college in Needham, MA. Abby began her professional career as an Account Executive at Porter Novelli in New York City, helping to lead public relations efforts for Fortune 100 clients. She received her bachelor's degree in organizational studies from the University of Michigan.

LAURIE BENNETT
Media Director
Laurie is a highly experienced media strategist, analyst, and planner who has long guided educational, business-to-business, healthcare, nonprofit, and retail clients in the development and execution of integrated advertising programs. Laurie is Vice President of Tipping Point Media, Cognitive Marketing's media partner. A Business Administration graduate of Alfred State College who also attended UNC/Greensboro, Laurie brings not only many years of advertising media planning and buying experience to her role as our Media Director, but also in-depth knowledge and deep commitment to the ongoing study and deployment of new and innovative media options for our educational clients.

ANDREA ZUEGEL
Website Developer & Internet Strategist
Andrea provides counsel to clients who want to rethink the internal management of their institution's website and online presence, and she also leads our website redesign team. Andrea is a graduate of Cornell University (B.A. Political Science). She began her career in Washington, D.C., first at the U.S. Department of Education and later the Food Marketing Institute. Andrea came to Rochester in 1990 to work for Wegman's Food Markets, one of the nation's most innovative food retailers. While there, Andrea served as writer, communications manager, Web marketing manager, and advertising manager for new ventures. Andrea has managed the redesign of entire websites for Nazareth College and Hochstein School of Music & Dance, among others. In her work at Cognitive, she has been and continues to be integral to our Web work for Wells College, Purchase College, Hudson Valley Community College, and The College at Brockport.

MICHAEL TUTINO
Senior Designer
Mike's work is graphic and interactive design, skills that he combines to produce a wide range of electronic communications and online advertising programs. Mike was an integral member of the design teams we assembled to develop the new graphic identity systems and websites for Wells College, Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College, and The College at Brockport, among others. He typically serves as principal liaison with the Web programming teams at our client institutions. Mike has developed microsites for use in program promotions and student recruitment, and he is an experienced Flash multimedia designer. A graduate of the State University of New York College at Buffalo, Mike also attended Rochester Institute of Technology. His career includes serving as Manager of Corporate Graphics at Champion Products, where he was responsible for creative direction of branded, collegiate, licensed, and Olympic apparel development and marketing.

BARBARA PIERCE
Public Relations Director
Co-founder of the PR division of Tipping Point Media, Barbara is a public and press relations specialist who knows how to utilize contemporary PR methods not just to gain publicity for an organization but to support the coherent development of its brand. A graduate of the University of Rochester (B.A. English), Barbara has pursued her passion for persuasion throughout a 20-year public relations career during which she started out as a public relations account executive at Eric Mower & Associates and rose to the position of Strategic Communications Director at Eastman Kodak Company. Barbara is in constant motion: her volunteer board work has included service to the Advertising Council of Rochester, WXXI Public Broadcasting, Rochester City Ballet, and the 360|365 Film Festival. She earned her accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America in 2001.
WENDY DISALVO
Print Production Manager
Wendy manages all aspects of our print production work. She acts as our clients advocate for quality and affordability in the complex arena of print production. A graduate of the University of Buffalo (B.A. English), Wendy began her print production career in direct marketing at Catalyst Direct, a leading provider of direct marketing services to businesses. She later worked for two of Rochester's leading advertising firms in print production management.

Since our founding, Cognitive Marketing has been committed to providing each unique client with the most talented and effective creative team that can be formed. Our core brand development team is augmented by writers, art directors, broadcast directors, artists, musicians, technologists, researchers, media analysts, and others, each of whom contributes a particular talent to the expression of a brand. These teams are formulated to best serve the character and specific needs of the individual client. While the team remains stable for the history of the relationship with a particular client, we are always scouting nationally to build our team of specialists.
